Ukrainian Drone Attack Sparks Fire at Russian Railway Station in Volgograd
A Ukrainian drone attack caused a fire at a railway station in Russia’s Volgograd region overnight, damaging a power line and halting train and flight operations, according to regional officials.
The incident, reported on August 4, 2025, occurred near the Archeda train station, where an unexploded drone was also found on the railway tracks. Fortunately, no damage to the railway tracks was reported, though the disruption delayed several regional trains, as confirmed by the state news agency TASS.
In response to the strike, Rosaviatsia, Russia’s civil aviation authority, temporarily suspended flights from Volgograd’s regional airport for several hours. Normal operations resumed around 3:00 AM GMT.
According to Volgograd Governor Andrei Bocharov, the drone attack was “massive”, targeting vital energy and transport infrastructure. Russia’s Ministry of Defence later claimed it had intercepted 61 Ukrainian drones, six of which were over the Volgograd region. However, Ukraine has not officially commented on the attack.
These drone strikes are part of Ukraine’s ongoing strategy to target key infrastructure deep within Russian territory, aimed at undermining Russia’s war capabilities. Volgograd, while inland, lies close to the Ukrainian border and has seen increasing drone activity in recent months.
As of now, Newsroom Naija has not independently verified the full extent of the attack, and further developments are expected.
