Wike: Full FCT Development Not Feasible in Two Years, Focus Shifts to Health Sector

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that full development across Abuja is not achievable in just two years. He made this known during a media chat on Monday, addressing criticism over the government’s prioritization of infrastructure over education and health.

Wike emphasized that strategic phasing is key to sustainable development. He revealed that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has already begun implementing key health sector upgrades, including the renovation of the abandoned Utako Hospital, rehabilitation of Gwarimpa and Gwagwalada hospitals, and work on the doctors’ quarters.

“This is just two years in office; it’s not possible to turn around every sector,” he said.

While critics say education is being sidelined, Wike defended infrastructure investments as the bedrock for all other development. He assured residents that comprehensive projects for education and other sectors are in the pipeline.

The Minister called on citizens to remain patient, promising a balanced, long-term development plan across the FCT.
