Helicopter Landing Levies Suspended by Aviation Minister Festus
In a recent development, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus, has temporarily suspended the enforcement of helicopter landing levies at aerodromes, helipads, and airstrips. \
This decision follows a meeting with the Executives of Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) to address concerns about the levies collected by Messers NAEBI Dynamic Concept Ltd, a consultant appointed by the Federal Government.
The suspension, effective from May 30, 2024, was announced in a statement signed by the Head of Press, Odutayo Oluseyi, on Friday, May 31, in Abuja.
Minister Festus cited demands for a review from various stakeholders in the aviation industry as the reason for the suspension. In response, he has formed a committee comprising members from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, its relevant agencies, the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), International Oil Companies (IOCs), and Messers NAEBI Dynamic Concept Ltd.
This committee is tasked with addressing the concerns raised and submitting a report by the end of June 2024.
Messers NAEBI Dynamic Concept Ltd had been given the exclusive right by the Federal Government to collect these levies, a decision that has faced scrutiny from industry stakeholders. The committee’s recommendations are expected to provide a path forward for resolving these issues.
