Oloja-Elect Files Lawsuit Over Harassment by Oba of Lagos, Police
Oloja-Elect Drags Oba of Lagos and Police to Court Over Alleged Harassment
Prince Abiola Kosoko, the Oloja-elect of Lagos, has filed a fundamental rights lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Lagos. The suit names the Oba of Lagos, the Inspector General of Police, senior police officers, and the Olumegbon Ajah family’s investment company. Prince Kosoko claims they orchestrated actions to intimidate and unlawfully arrest people on his family’s land in Ogombo, Eti-Osa. Vanguard News
He is seeking a court order that protects him from harassment and stops any further interference with his family’s 114.476-hectare land, which was legally confirmed in a 2024 Lagos High Court consent judgment. Vanguard News
According to Prince Kosoko, the police have been arresting his family’s workers and pursuing criminal charges over what is fundamentally a civil land dispute—even though the law recognizes his family’s ownership. He also highlighted that succession to the Oloja title traditionally rests with his lineage, and these harassment tactics seem aimed at undermining that heritage. Vanguard News
The suit is currently pending, with defendants yet to file their responses and no hearing date announced. The case signals a high-stakes courtroom showdown over ancestral rights, land sovereignty, and respect for cultural traditions in Lagos.
