Governor Abiodun Seeks Chinese Partnership in Mineral Resources Exploration

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has called for Chinese investment in exploring the state’s abundant mineral resources. He made this appeal during a courtesy visit from the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, at his office in Abeokuta. The governor said Ogun is richly endowed with minerals like gold, clay, bitumen, limestone, kaolin, glass sand, and granite, and must work with Chinese investors to tap them more systematically.Vanguard News

Governor Abiodun underlined that Ogun State leads in the non-oil sector and boasts fertile land for crops like cassava, cocoa, rubber, and cashew. The state is also the top cement producer in Nigeria and third in Africa behind Egypt and Morocco. With a strong human resource base and thriving educational institutions, the governor said Ogun is well positioned for strategic Public–Private Partnerships (PPPs).Vanguard News

He highlighted his administration’s ongoing efforts to attract investment by improving infrastructure. These include a newly licensed airport, a dry inland port at Kajola, and plans for a major deep seaport at Olokola. He also revealed plans to link Ogun with Lagos via a multimodal transport system incorporating air, rail, and road networks.Vanguard News

The Chinese Ambassador, Yu Dunhai, acknowledged the presence of around 160 Chinese companies investing over $1 billion in the Ogun–Guangdong Free Trade Zone in Igbesa, Ota. He said another 100 companies are expected soon. He praised Nigeria as China’s largest trading partner in Africa and urged other Chinese firms to invest, emphasizing the need for adherence to environmental and legal standards.Vanguard News
