Dangote Cement Pledges Full Support for Phyna’s Sister After Truck Accident

Dangote Cement Plc has officially responded to the tragic road accident in Auchi, Edo State, involving one of its trucks that critically injured Mrs. Ruth Otabor, sister of reality TV star Phyna. The company announced that senior officials, accompanied by their insurance team, immediately visited the accident site, engaged with law enforcement, and personally checked on Mrs. Otabor and her family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.

The company confirmed that Mrs. Otabor would receive full medical care and compensation in accordance with its welfare policy. This commitment reflects an effort to uphold their duty of care for those impacted by incidents involving their assets. Dangote Cement also extended heartfelt wishes for her “full and speedy recovery” in its statement.

Phyna, the BBNaija Season 7 winner, took to social media on August 13 to demand justice for her sister. She accused the Dangote Group of facilitating the removal of the truck’s license plate and prioritizing their interests over prompt care for her sister. She also alleged that a company manager planned to visit the police station before checking on her sister’s welfare.

The crash resulted in the immediate amputation of one of Ruth’s legs, with concerns mounting over the stability of the other. She also sustained serious injuries to her hand and head, leaving her condition critical.

The public outcry has been swift and vocal. Actress Kate Henshaw rallied support, urging the Nigerian Police Force to ensure justice is served and not shield those responsible. Activist VeryDarkMan amplified the incident online, pleading for fairness and transparency.

Dangote Cement’s pledge of support, encompassing medical attention and compensation, is a necessary step, though the focus remains on ensuring full accountability. Many Nigerians are closely watching to see if the company and authorities will honor both the letter and spirit of justice in this case.
