2025 WASSCE: Only 38.32% of Candidates Passed English and Maths – WAEC Reveals
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that only 38.32% of candidates who sat for the 2025 WASSCE for school candidates obtained credits in both English Language and Mathematics, two core subjects required for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The announcement was made during the official result release on Monday, August 4, 2025, and further confirmed by WAEC’s Head of National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut. Out of over 1.8 million candidates who registered, only 682,295 met the benchmark of obtaining credit passes in five subjects, including English and Mathematics.
WAEC attributed the performance to various factors, including preparation levels and ongoing challenges in the education sector. The Council also noted an increase in malpractice cases compared to previous years.
Candidates can check their results on the official WAEC portal via www.waecdirect.org using their examination number and result checker PIN.
This update has sparked widespread discussion among students and educators on social media, with many calling for urgent reforms in teaching methods and curriculum delivery.
The release of the 2025 WAEC WASSCE results remains a major milestone in Nigeria’s academic calendar.
