Oyebanji Warns Ekiti Against Discrediting Tinubu amid Federal Roads Debate

Share on Social Media:

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has urged residents not to incite or discredit President Bola Tinubu, arguing that federal projects, particularly road works, cannot be completed overnight. Speaking on the sidelines of the annual Udiroko Festival in Ado-Ekiti, he addressed growing criticism over the poor state of the Ado-Aramoko-Itawure road, clarifying that ongoing federal interventions demonstrate the president’s commitment to the state.Blueprint Newspapers Limitedekitistate.gov.ng

The governor pointed to two major federal roads currently under construction: the Ado-Ikere-Akure road and the Ado-Ijan-Iluomoba road, as proof of Tinubu’s dedication. He also noted that the state government had completed repairs on the Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki federal stretch to complement federal efforts.Blueprint Newspapers Limitedekitistate.gov.ng

Describing the narrative that the federal government has “abandoned” Ekiti as both unfair and inaccurate, Oyebanji said, “Ekiti people are not ingrates.” He emphasized that while President Tinubu’s administration is supportive, it’s impractical to expect immediate solutions to all infrastructural needs.Blueprint Newspapers Limitedekitistate.gov.ng

Loyalists of the president echoed the governor’s sentiments. The pro-Tinubu group “BAO Grassroots Support for President Tinubu” denounced criticisms of Oyebanji over selective road works as “unacceptable and hypocritical”. They highlighted the governor’s goodwill in reconstructing hundreds of roads across local councils, including the Ado-Ifaki Highway, as a testament to his leadership and the effectiveness of collaboration with the federal government. The Nation Newspaper

These remarks arrive amid mounting speculation around the lead-up to Ekiti’s 2026 gubernatorial election. Although Oyebanji has not formally declared his bid for a second term, widespread endorsements; from party stalwarts, local communities, and civic groups, have positioned him as the likely frontrunner. The combined support of Tinubu and Oyebanji has become a rallying point for many in the state. The Guardian Nigeria

With the July 28 statewide endorsement rally, featuring defectors such as Senator Biodun Olujimi and former governors, making national headlines, Oyebanji has leveraged both infrastructural achievements and strategic alliances to foster unity and fortify Tinubu’s influence in Ekiti.Tribune OnlinePunch
