The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, has revealed that his ambition to lead and serve the public began at the tender age of 14.

Speaking during a youth empowerment event in Abeokuta over the weekend, Oluomo reflected on his early years, noting that his leadership path was shaped by community involvement, curiosity about governance, and a desire to solve societal challenges.

According to him, growing up in a modest family taught him resilience and discipline, values he carried into his political career.

“At 14, I didn’t just want to be part of the conversation; I wanted to influence decisions for the greater good,” the Speaker said. “I saw how good leadership could transform communities, and I made a commitment to prepare myself for that role.”

Oluomo explained that he honed his leadership skills through student union activities, community service, and consistent engagement in political discourse. He added that the journey was not without challenges, but his determination and belief in purposeful leadership helped him navigate obstacles.

The Speaker also urged Nigerian youths to take responsibility for their futures, stressing the importance of personal development, mentorship, and active participation in governance.

He advised young people to avoid shortcuts to leadership, emphasizing that integrity, service, and dedication remain the cornerstones of sustainable success in public life.

Oluomo’s remarks were met with applause from the audience, which included students, community leaders, and political stakeholders. Several attendees took to social media to commend his story, describing it as an inspiration for the next generation of Nigerian leaders.
