Governor Oyebanji Dissolves Ekiti Cabinet, Retains Key Officials Ahead of 2025 Primaries

Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria; In a bold political move, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has officially dissolved the State Executive Council (SEC), effective immediately.

The decision was announced Sunday night in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro. All affected Commissioners and Special Advisers have been directed to hand over to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior civil servant in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.

Governor Oyebanji expressed his appreciation to the outgoing officials for their service and wished them well in their future endeavors.

However, some key officials were exempted from the dissolution:

  • Attorney General & Commissioner for Justice
  • Commissioner for Health & Human Services
  • Commissioner for Agriculture & Food Security
  • Commissioner for Education
  • Commissioner for Works
  • Commissioner for Trade, Investment, Industry & Cooperatives
  • Special Adviser on Special Education & Social Inclusion
  • Special Adviser on Lands, Survey & e-GIS

In addition, these Directors General retained their positions:

  • Director General, Office of Transformation & Service Delivery (OTSD)
  • Director General, SDGs & Project Monitoring
  • Director General, Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP)

While the official statement did not give a reason for the sweeping reshuffle, political analysts suggest the move may be linked to the upcoming Ekiti State gubernatorial primaries scheduled for October 2, 2025. Many believe the governor is consolidating his political team ahead of a highly competitive race.
