Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has unveiled her latest LP, “The Year I Turned 21,” which is now available for streaming and download across all major digital platforms.

The project features the new single “Last Heartbreak Song,” a collaboration with American R&B artist Giveon. Other standout tracks include “Commas,” “Rhythm & Blues,” and “Bad Vibes,” featuring fellow Nigerian singer Seyi Vibez.

Thematically, “The Year I Turned 21” is rich in diaristic writing, exploring themes of growth, love, heartbreak, and empowerment. Ayra Starr describes the album as a coming-of-age story, encapsulating the emotional and genre diversity of a 21-year-old African girl and superstar. She emphasizes that 21 signifies a pivotal moment of change, necessary growth, realization of power, and love.

“This is a coming-of-age story,” Ayra Starr explained. “The rollercoaster of emotions and genres intertwined tells the story of a 21-year-old African girl and superstar. 21 isn’t just an age, it’s a moment of change in your life. A time of necessary growth, hurt, realizing your power, and love. Not everybody’s ‘21’ happens at 21. Whenever it is for you, learn from it and feel through it, that’s what matters.”

“The Year I Turned 21” comes three years after her debut EP and first album, “19 & Dangerous,” which included the Grammy-nominated global hit “Rush.”

Signed to Mavin Records, Ayra Starr is a two-time MOBO Award nominee and is up for three awards at this year’s BET Awards on June 30.

In March, Ayra Starr was confirmed as a special guest on Chris Brown’s upcoming US tour in support of his “11:11” album. She is also set to make her Glastonbury Festival debut on the Pyramid Stage in June.
