Soludo’s Wife Invites Brutalized NYSC Member to Government House in Anambra
Anambra State First Lady, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has reached out with empathy and support to the NYSC member who was brutally assaulted by operatives of the Agunechemba security outfit. The incident, involving a female corps member in Oba, Idemili South, was captured on video and shared widely, sparking national outrage. Soludo personally called the young woman to sympathize and extended an invitation for her to visit the Government House once she returns to the state.
The assault led to swift action: the state government confirmed that the involved security personnel were arrested and would face legal consequences. The Governor’s special adviser on community security affirmed that although the officers were on duty pursuing suspected cultists, their conduct during the search, including the assault, was “unacceptable and regrettable.” The state also reached out to the NYSC local authority and arranged a meeting with the victim’s representatives.
This outreach reflects Dr. Soludo’s earlier condemnation of the assault, calling it “ugly and humiliating.” She emphasized that such a degrading act does not align with Anambra’s identity as a hospitable and humane state. She urged that rules of engagement during security operations must prioritize dignity, civility, and respect, and appealed for measures that ensure such an incident never recurs.
The NYSC management also responded, denouncing the incident as “unacceptable and dehumanizing.” They assured the public of ongoing investigations, as well as plans to support the traumatized corps member through counseling and welfare interventions.
The First Lady’s personal intervention and the state’s swift response highlight a commitment to justice, protection of NYSC members, and proactive leadership. By inviting the victim to Government House, Soludo is showing compassion and a willingness to restore dignity to those who serve.
