Nigeria Police Condemn Officers Over Viral Assault on Motorist in Lagos
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has condemned the actions of officers captured in a viral video attempting to forcibly remove a motorist’s glasses during a stop-and-search operation in Lagos.
In the video, the officers, later identified as personnel of the Lagos State Police Command, were also seen assaulting the motorist.
According to a statement released on Sunday via the Force’s official X handle, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Lagos State has been directed to take swift action to ensure the officers face appropriate disciplinary measures. The squad involved has also been ordered to undergo restructuring.
“The Nigeria Police Force assures the public that this isolated incident does not represent the standards of professionalism expected of police personnel,” the statement read.
The Force emphasized its commitment to identifying and sanctioning errant officers whose misconduct undermines the efforts of hardworking and responsible personnel across the country.
