In a show of robust political support, the Ekiti State University (EKSU) Alumni Association and the Ekiti State House of Assembly have publicly rallied behind Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s re-election bid ahead of the 2026 APC primaries.

Leading the charge, the EKSU Alumni Solidarity Group for BAO, under alumni leadership, mobilized strongly by purchasing Governor Oyebanji’s Expression of Interest and Nomination forms at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja. The funds, contractually pegged at ₦50 million, were collected after raising approximately ₦75 million during the group’s initial fundraising drive. Representatives of the alumni, led by Engr. Dipo Bamisaye, delivered the forms to Governor Oyebanji in Ado-Ekiti. In his remarks, Oyebanji thanked the alumni for their uncommon gesture, pledging to continue making them proud through policies focused on inclusive governance, economic development, and transforming EKSU into a world-class institution. Parallel to the alumni’s initiative, the Ekiti State House of Assembly also endorsed Governor Oyebanji’s bid for a second term. While specific details of the resolution remain undisclosed, lawmakers reportedly cited his developmental strides in governance, infrastructure, and welfare as justification for their backing. Punch

This dual endorsement from both alumni and lawmakers represents a strategic consolidation of support within ideological and institutional networks, implying a strengthened campaign structure for Oyebanji ahead of the primaries.

As the 2026 Edo-Ekiti governorship election approaches, the significance of these endorsements cannot be overstated. They offer Oyebanji a powerful narrative of proven performance, grassroots connection, and institutional backing, critical advantages in party primaries and the general election.
