EFCC Orders Arrest After Ex-Officer Appears on Lege Miami’s Matchmaking Show with Commission ID
Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has ordered the arrest of former employee Olakunle Alex Folarin, after he appeared on a social media matchmaking show hosted by Adams “Lege Miami” Kehinde, displaying EFCC identification.
Folarin, previously employed as a driver at the EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Directorate, was dismissed following confirmation of certificate forgery, a serious indictment that led to his termination. Despite his dismissal, he reportedly retained EFCC property, including an official identity card, prompting the agency to pursue prosecution.
In an official statement, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede emphasized the breach and the directive for Folarin’s arrest, highlighting that the possession of EFCC property post-dismissal is unlawful. The Commission has urged the public to refrain from attributing his conduct to EFCC, stating his media appearance is unrelated to the agency.
The marriage-themed live stream video, which showed Folarin introducing himself as an EFCC operative, quickly went viral. The incident raised concerns about the exploitation of EFCC identity to legitimize personal endeavors, misleading the audience and potentially harming the agency’s reputation.
This latest incident adds to the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to cleanse its ranks of corruption. In early 2025, the agency made headlines for dismissing 27 officers involved in fraudulent activities and misconduct, an action ratified by Chairman Olukoyede after recommendations from the Staff Disciplinary Committee.
EFCC also recently detained 10 officers from its Lagos Command over theft of operational materials, reaffirming its commitment to integrity and accountability.
As Folarin now faces potential prosecution, the Commission continues its “zero tolerance” policy for corruption, even regarding former staff. EFCC underscores that misuse of its identity or resources, past or present, is a criminal offense with consequences.
