Court Jails Four for Internet Fraud in Lagos Following EFCC Sting at OOPL

The Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced four internet fraudsters following their conviction by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice D.I. Dipeolu delivered the sentences on Friday, August 15, 2025, after the accused, a group including Bisiriyu Roqeeb Abiodun (“Sharon”), Ibrahim Azeez Olatunji, Akinwale Isaac, and Habeeb Oladipupo Oshundairo, pleaded guilty to various counts of impersonation and cyber fraud. The convictions stem from a large-scale EFCC operation that resulted in the arrest of 93 suspected internet fraudsters at a hotel within the vicinity of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The Nation Newspaper

According to court records, Abiodun, using the alias “Sharon,” posed as a white American woman on a Zangi account linked to his Samsung Galaxy S20 to deceive an unsuspecting victim from Tennessee, USA. Olatunji was found guilty of setting up a Google account under the guise of “Camila” to defraud others. Isaac used WhatsApp profiles named “Monica” and “Daisy” to mislead victims, while Oshundairo impersonated a service certificate and internal revenue expert via email to execute his schemes. During the trial, prosecution counsel Franklin Ofoma and S.M. Yabo presented a range of compelling evidence, including investigative reports, the digital devices used by the accused, forensic analyses, and bank drafts for restitution. These were admitted into court as exhibits. The Nation Newspaper

This sentencing highlights the EFCC’s intensified efforts to combat cybercrime through proactive sting operations and reinforces the judiciary’s zero-tolerance stance on internet-related offenses.
