Vice President Kashim Shettima has handed over 71 minors from Kano State, who were recently released by a Federal High Court in Abuja, to Governor Abba Yusuf. The teenagers had been held in connection with their participation in the #EndBadGovernance protest that took place in August 2024.

The group was transported back to Kano via Max Air following their release.

Governor Yusuf, through his spokesperson Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, expressed deep gratitude to human rights lawyer Femi Falana and other advocates who fought persistently for the minors’ freedom.

Announcing the decision, Governor Yusuf stated, “The Federal Government has dismissed the treason charges initially filed against these minors, the majority of whom are from Kano State.” He praised the move as a significant win for both justice and human dignity.

Suleiman Dantsoho, a human rights lawyer representing the youths, lauded Governor Yusuf’s commitment to the case. “We commend Governor Abba Yusuf for his unwavering support and dedication to human rights. His leadership was instrumental in bringing about the release of these young individuals,” Dantsoho said.
