During the ceremony, the District Governor, a Pastor of Faith Baptist Church, highlighted that the project was designed to improve local healthcare standards and alleviate the overwhelming burden residents previously faced when seeking medical attention. The project stems from Rotary’s consistent track record of rejuvenating neglected public health facilities through strategic interventions.
Partnering with Abia State University, the project includes the donation of an ambulance and essential diagnostic tools, such as a crash cart, a defibrillator, and oxygen concentrators, ensuring Njikata residents receive robust emergency care. ABU’s Dean of Medicine expressed appreciation for the long-term value this support brings to the community’s well-being.
Furthermore, the Rotary team partnered with the Permanent Secretary of Abia State Ministry of Health to train healthcare workers at the facility. The hands-on training focused on operating the donated equipment, managing emergency care protocols, and maintaining operational efficiency.
Locals received the initiative with open arms. A community representative reflected that for years they grappled with poor facilities and delayed services, particularly affecting maternal and child health. The new amenities, he added, are more than infrastructure, they represent hope and access.
Further emphasizing sustainability, Rotary extended invitations for continuous community and university involvement. This approach underscores a shared vision to enhance healthcare delivery without relying solely on external assistance.
In an era where primary healthcare serves as the backbone of resilient systems, the Rotary Club of Obigbo’s ₦9 million investment highlights a strategic win. It bridges gaps, strengthens emergency response, and sets a vibrant example of civic collaboration in public service.
