NBA, CSO Step In: Free Legal Aid Offered to Comfort Emmanson as They Fault Ibom Air Over Treatment

Share on Social Media:

In a strong demonstration of legal and civic support, both the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and civil society group NASSGOLD have condemned the treatment of Ms. Comfort Emmanson by Ibom Air following a violent incident aboard its Uyo–Lagos flight on August 10, 2025.

The NBA, decrying the lifetime flight ban imposed on Emmanson by Ibom Air and the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), described the act as excessive, unlawful, and a serious affront to the rule of law and human dignity. The association also highlighted her forcible removal, partial exposure, and public humiliation; with those violating incidents having been filmed and circulated online, as a breach of fundamental rights. Responding to these violations, the NBA has offered her pro bono legal representation, demanding that Ibom Air retract the ban, issue a public apology, and engage in an impartial investigation. IndependentThe Journal Nigeria

Adding momentum to the support, a Civil Society Organisation, the Network for the Actualisation of Social Growth and Viable Development (NASSGOLD), also condemned the airline’s actions. Labeling the treatment as unjust and inhumane, NASSGOLD pledged to assist Emmanson, offering free legal services. The Journal Nigeria

These developments come amidst public outcry over the ethics of sharing intimate or humiliating footage online. Both groups stressed the importance of adhering to democratic due process and safeguarding human dignity, even under provocation or misconduct.
