Fed Govt Reconstitutes Boards of FCC and HYREP: Key Appointments Announced
The Federal Government has reconstituted key boards in two major agencies: the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYREP).
President Bola Tinubu personally approved the appointment of Kayode Oladele as a Commissioner of the FCCPC, signaling the government’s commitment to better regulation and consumer protection under the federal competition framework.
In a separate but equally significant move, the government also reconstituted the Governing Council and Board of Trustees of HYREP, the agency responsible for addressing environmental contamination in the Niger Delta particularly Ogoniland. The new Governing Council is chaired by the Minister of Environment and includes representatives from NGOs, Niger Delta communities, Ogoni stakeholders, and oil-producing states. On the Board of Trustees, Emmanuel Deeyah was reappointed chairman, with members representing Ogoni communities, Niger Delta communities, and environmental NGOs.
These reconstitutions reflect a broader effort by the Tinubu administration to reinforce governance structures in institutions critical to consumer rights and environmental restoration. The renewed boards are expected to provide robust oversight, strategic leadership, and greater community engagement in their respective mandates.
