5 Simple Steps to Peeling Pomegranate

Share on Social Media:

Peeling a pomegranate can seem like a daunting task, but with the right technique, it can be quick and mess-free. Follow these five simple steps to enjoy the delicious and nutritious seeds without the hassle.

1. Gather Your Tools

Before you start, make sure you have the following:

  • A sharp knife
  • A cutting board
  • A large bowl of water
  • A spoon or your fingers for removing seeds

2. Cut the Pomegranate

Begin by cutting off the top (the crown) of the pomegranate, about half an inch down from the top. This will reveal the seeds inside. Be careful not to cut too deep to avoid puncturing the seeds.

3. Score the Skin

With the top removed, you’ll notice the pomegranate is divided into sections by white pith. Using the knife, score the skin along the pith lines from top to bottom. Make sure not to cut too deep – just enough to penetrate the skin.

4. Open the Pomegranate

Hold the pomegranate over a bowl of water and gently pull it apart along the scored lines. The sections should come apart easily. Submerging the fruit in water helps to prevent juice splatters and makes the seeds easier to handle.

5. Remove the Seeds

With the pomegranate sections submerged in water, gently rub the seeds out with your fingers or use a spoon. The seeds will sink to the bottom while the white pith floats. Once all the seeds are removed, skim off the pith and drain the water.

Enjoy Your Pomegranate Seeds

Now that you’ve successfully peeled your pomegranate, you can enjoy the seeds as a healthy snack, in salads, or as a topping for various dishes. With these simple steps, peeling a pomegranate is quick, easy, and mess-free!
